Chain of Custody
Ensuring the safety, integrity, and security of items under chain of custody controls for law enforcement investigations or high-security data repositories can be aided by tamper evident labels, security bags, and security devices such as plastic band seals and cable seals.
Acetate Security Tape and Labels
Acetate tape and seals are frangible, which means they tear easily when removed. The “broken seal” feature of acetate signals tampering. After application, acetate material can be removed, but it is designed to tear into multiple pieces. The serrated edges (a sawtooth pattern) enhance the frangibility and security. Chemical tampering causes the solvent-sensitive inks to dissolve and smear.
When removed, acetate tape and seals do not leave any messy adhesive residue, but the film will break into several pieces. The low price of acetate security tape and seals makes this product one of the most affordable options we offer.
Acetate tape and seals are often used to detect tampering with various containers or bare metal access panels.
If applied to a reusable container or surface, use isopropyl alcohol to soak and dissolve the remaining acetate pieces and adhesive. If applied to unfinished metal, a razor can be used to scrape the remaining pieces, then clean the surface with alcohol.

Security Bags, Tamper Evident
Our tamper evident bags are sealed with a tamper evident closure. After sealing, if the closure is opened, the tamper evident seal will reveal a void message, such as "VOID OPENED" or "STOP!" We offer an assortment of transparent bag sizes ranging from 5 x 11 inches to 30 x 36 inches, and opaque bag sizes from 9 x 12 inches to 20 x 20 inches. Opaque bags keep the contents of the bag from being seen, while transparent bags allow the contents to be seen. Tamper evident security bags are not reusable.

Plastic Band Seals
Plastic band seals are fixed length seals, which create a 3 inch loop (7 inch circumference). They are affordably priced and intended for low and medium security applications. They offer a lower cost alternative to metal band seals, and are easy to install and remove. They have a low break strength, which allows the seals to removed manually without hand tools. All plastic band seals feature a unique, pre-assigned consecutive serial number.
Common applications for plastic band seals are:
- Truck and trailer doors
- Shipping containers
- Rail car doors
- Fire doors
- Tool box
- Sprinkler systems
- Storage bins
- Transfer hoppers
- Valves
- Utility meters
- Any container with a hasp

Adjustable Plastic Seals
Plastic seals are used to mechanically secure a variety of containers. Typical applications include truck doors, trailer doors, railcar doors, totes, valves, coin bags, inner drum bags, crime scene evidence storage bags, and any container with a hasp or loops.
All of our seals are suitable for indoor or outdoor applications. All seals have unique serial numbers, and some have bar codes.
Adjustable plastic seals are applied by threading the tip of the strap into the eye of the self-locking mechanism, then pulling the strap through to adjust for length and desired slack. Depending on which seal is used removal can be done manually or may require scissors or snips.
Some seals include a tear off tab for ease of seal removal. Tearing off the tab destroys the seal locking mechanism so it cannot be re-used.
Adjustable plastic seals are intended to indicate tampering for low and medium security applications. For higher security projects requiring a barrier seal, please see our selection of cable seals.
